The Future of the Cloud Is Mobile

Interactive, software-intensive systems have changed in fundamental ways over the last 30 years. These systems have evolved into web applications that have to solve problems for vastly larger user populations. With nearly 60 million Americans currently owning smart-phones, the rapid growth and success of tablets, and improved user experience across devices, the mobile web will become a much greater component to the multifaceted world. This is the era of the mobile web that will change people’s daily life and habits. The user’s desire to stay mobile and at the same time to be connected to the Internet has already become reality. In the next few years, larger user populations will connect to the web via mobile devices rather than via desktop personal computers.  As a result, mobile web will replace most desktop web applications. 

A combination of mobile web communication technologies and platforms provide mobile access to the Internet and all its resources. These are considered actively developing trends in the world of modern information technologies and this development will lead to the reconstruction of the information industries. This will ultimately change the way of daily life in the modern times.  

Various services of the mobile data transmission based on the technology of mobile internet provide mobile users with a wide choice of online services. These services are about to change world radically due to the of necessity of enabling the information and other resources online.

There are some potential problems and issues that could be barrier to this shift in mobile web. The most notable problem and issues include:

• Interoperability; multiple operating systems, browsers, devices and various data formats
• Limited memory, storage and processing power 
• High cost of storage
• Application distribution- currently mobile applications are tied to a carrier 
• Lack of speedy mobile internet access

These major problem and issues require taking data processing power away from the mobile
phone and creating a common platform that works for all mobile devices that could solve interoperability issues. Cloud computing that is an infrastructure where both the data storage and the data processing happen outside of the mobile device, playing an important role in solving these challenges in mobile computing. Today, the majority of applications today still do most of the data storage and processing on the mobile devices themselves and not in the cloud, which may drastically change in the next few years. 

Prompted in part by the Nokia and Microsoft alliance announced, operators were urged to focus their efforts on higher-value applications and services, such as solutions for Enterprise / B2B markets and emerging opportunities such as mobile marketing, mobile-enablement of business process applications, Mobile Money, mHealth and Machine-to-Machine.
